Your family's photos, kept safe at home.

PhotoStash backs up every phone in the house to your own PC. No subscription, ever: free for one phone, or one payment for the whole family.

  • Windows PC
  • iPhone
  • Android

Where do your photos live?

With a cloud service

  • On a company's servers
  • A monthly fee, for as long as you keep them
  • Their terms, which can change

With PhotoStash

  • On your own PC, or a drive plugged into it
  • No monthly fee: free, or pay once
  • End-to-end encrypted, never stored in the cloud

How it works

Set it up once. Then forget about it.

  1. 1

    Install it on your PC

The PC holds the family's library: on its own drive, or on an external drive plugged into it.

  2. 2

    Add each phone

Install PhotoStash on each iPhone or Android phone and pair it with your PC.

  3. 3

    That's it

Phones back up by themselves: over your Wi-Fi at home, and through our relay when you're out.

What you get

Every feature, even on the free version.

The whole library, on your phone

Browse every photo in the family's library from your phone, not just the ones you took.

Backs up at home and away

Over your Wi-Fi at home. Away from home, through our relay.

End-to-end encrypted

The relay passes your photos along but can't read them. They're never stored in the cloud.

Free up space

Clear photos off your phone once your PC has checked each one.

An extra copy, if you want one

Keep a second copy of the library on another drive. PhotoStash keeps it up to date automatically.

Pricing

Questions

Is there a subscription?

No, and there never will be. PhotoStash is free for one phone. PhotoStash Family is a single payment for as many phones as the family has.

What does the free version leave out?

No features: backup at home and away, browsing the library, freeing up space and the extra copy are all included. Free covers one phone; Family covers unlimited phones for one library.

What if I get a new PC?

The license belongs to your library, not to the computer, so moving to a new PC doesn't mean paying again.

Do I pay for updates, or for backing up away from home?

No. Updates are included, and so is backing up away from home, with no yearly fee.

What if it isn't right for us?

You have 30 days to ask for a refund, no questions asked.

Can I buy it in the phone app?

No. Nothing is sold inside the phone apps. Purchases happen only on this website or on your PC.

Are my photos stored in the cloud?

No. At home, phones back up to your PC over Wi-Fi. Away from home, they go through our relay, end-to-end encrypted: the relay passes them along but can't read them, and nothing is stored in the cloud.

Is there a Mac version?

Not yet. PhotoStash runs on Windows for now; the Mac version is coming later.

When can I get it?

PhotoStash is in a private beta with family and friends. Send us a note and we'll tell you when it's ready.
